The partition in 1947 triggered one of the largest migrations in history and created two separate and independent nations: India and Pakistan. I was born and raised in India, however, my roots lie in Pakistan – a place that is unfamiliar to me. With this piece, I try to navigate what my ancestors must have experienced: the tension between moving to a place you are “supposed” to go to while leaving the place you have only ever known.
